His thoughts are less rambling, since if he thinks too much about this he'll have to admit to real, bona fide feelings and he was never any good at expressing those, even in simple friendship.
So instead, he's thinking about her and how she feels in his arms, and that her mouth tastes really nice...yep, caught up in the moment.
